Stone Mountain has not been without its controversy. In 1916 the North face was leased to the United Daughters of the Confederacy with plans for a Confederate Memorial Relief Carving. This carving is of the President of the Confederate States Jefferson Davis on his horse Blackjack, General Robert E Lee on his horse Traveler and General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson on Little Sorrel. The unveiling in 1970 was awkward as it closely followed the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. The Charleston church shooting has surged new controversy against anything Confederate and this includes the relief on Stone Mountain. The Atlanta NAACP has called for the removal of the carving along with dozens of other Confederate monuments on government property. Do you agree that the historical relief carving should be removed?
No I do not agree. This is history and a part of our nation.
