- it's rude, if they did a good job they'd get a good tip. maybe, the person there asking doesn't have the extra money to provide a better tip if i wer asks i wouldn't go back to the place

- while waitstaff are grossly underpaid by their employers, counting on tips, a tip is something that is up to the customer. waitstaff are not entitled to a tip - but one should be offered
- i think a lot of people would be offended. some might not have the means to give them a better tip and feel put on the spot. i think if that were to happen to me i'd avoid the restaurant out of guilt. tipping is also subjective with some people feeling it's not enough or it's too much. good survey.

- i was a waitress in the late and early 1980's, i know i was a very good waitress as i heard that from my customers and i had many who asked for me personally, i also waited on people who were rude and very demanding and never left a tip. it would have been just as rude if i asked them for a tip!
