Recently 400 factory workers were killed when a clothing factory in Bangladesh collapsed. The collapsed building not only made people question sound labor practices in Bangladesh, but also highlighted the amount of big clothing brands that are made abroad. Currently Bangladesh has over 4,000 garment factories that include The Gap, Joe Fresh, Children’s Place, Walmart, JC Penny and Sears to name a few. Although companies are supposed to conduct health and safety audits, it is difficult to determine whether a company is actually conducting the audits as the reports are not made public.
