Results: No Nothing Until Marriage!!

The Duggars, a family made popular by TLC's 19 Kids and Counting, are fundamentalist evangelical Baptists who have very strict rules in place for their children who are old enough to date. Parents have to approve of the person and give permission for the courtship and the couple is not allowed to front-hug, hold hands or kiss, and they must always be chaperoned. Even phone calls and texts are monitored by the parents, even though the daughters are over 20 years of age. Do you think this is a better way to date/court than what is normally done?

The Duggar daughters were not allowed to hold hands with the boy they were "courting" until they couple became engaged to marry. Would you be willing to not even hold hands with someone until you are engaged?

Both Duggar daughters that recently married followed these rules and saved their first kiss for the altar once they have been announced as Husband and Wife. Would you be willing to save your first kiss with someone until you are married?

The Duggars feel that not allowing any real physical contact allows the couple to talk more and get to know each other more deeply. Others argue that by constantly being chaperoned, the couple is always on their best behaviour and therefore does not really get to know each other very well. Do you think they get to know each other more deeply by having such minimal physical contact?

In Jessa Duggar's case, her groom is still in his teens and has not finished any formal education and has no permanent employment. Do you think these "courtship" rules encourage the couple to rush into marriage so they can experience more physical things?
