What is being seen as a very progressive step by Canada, the government will pardon all those with a prior pot possession record of 30 grams or less. Until now, simple possession of marijuana has been punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and six months in jail. Individuals have been eligible to apply for a pardon through the Parole Board of Canada five years after the conviction is handed down. But the waiting period and the cost of applying for a pardon, known as a record suspension, have proven difficult for some people saddled with records. With this announcement, thousands of prior records will be eligible for a pardon, in what many feel is a long time coming, and a step in the right direction. Do you agree with this idea?

All three levels of government have a say in where marijuana can be sold, used or advertised.
