The last issue of Teen Vogue in this decade, features who the magazine feels perfectly encompasses the message of this present decade, and the future -- human rights activist and icon Malala Yousafzai. Are you familiar with this extraordinary young woman?

The tag line reads: Decade of Youth Rising, and she is definitely the poster girl for this. Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, is famous for surviving being shot by the Taliban after speaking out against their oppression. The activist is featured in a series looking back at youth activism as a defining part of the 2010s. Malala is quoted in the magazine (which is digital only now) as saying "What has given me hope is that the last decade was a decade of youth activism, but the next one is going to be about youth change-making, and that's what gives me hope. It's like we have done our activism; we have done enough to raise our voice. And I think the next step is now let's make the change, let's be the change-makers, let's get more involved in this." Do you agree with her message?

Her incredible life story has been one of the many striking youth activism stories of the decade. She had already achieved notoriety for activism by the time she reached college age. For Malala, education is at the root of everything she's worked for. She was only 16 years old, when she was shot by the Taliban, in an assassination attempt in retaliation for her activism in the rights for girls to have an education. After surviving, she continued to champion for those rights even harder, and more vocally. She was determined to not give up the fight until every girl could go to school. She established the Malala Fund, a charity dedicated to giving every girl an opportunity to achieve a future she chooses. In recognition of her work, she received the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2014 and became the youngest-ever Nobel laureate. Malala is now 22 years old and in her last year of undergrad education at Oxford University, and just as dedicated to her cause as the day she was shot. Do you feel some people are just born to change the world in a big way, like Malala?

One of the more personal revelations Malala opens up about is her struggles with mental health, and given what she has been through, it is not surprising. She is very open about her struggles with depression, and shares that even when she has struggled, she always asked for help. And that. she feels, is key -- to talk about your struggles, seek help and share your story. Do you consider her a good role model?
