Ontario introduced new automobile license plates on February 1st, a project of the Ontario Progressive Conservative government and Premier Ford. From that date on, new plates issued for passenger vehicles will be two-tone blue with white numbers and letters instead of the opposite. There's just one slight problem -- the new license plates are 'virtually unreadable' at night, according to police. Apparently, even though before launching the new plates, the government said, it consulted with "key stakeholders, including our law enforcement partners, to test the readability, reflectivity and functionality of the new high-definition plates", it appears that perhaps, these tests were never done at night. The province is now replacing all the new plates with redesigned plates, which will be ready in about three weeks. So far, 49,000 of the new plates have been distributed to Ontarians, and an additional 134,000 are currently in Service Ontario locations. Are you aware of this story?

There's another key change: The motto "A Place to Grow" replaces "Yours to Discover." The line comes from the song A Place to Stand, the province's unofficial anthem since Expo 67. "Yours to Discover" has been on Ontario plates for 37 years. The PC government of Bill Davis brought in the slogan in 1982, replacing "Keep It Beautiful." Which slogan do you prefer?

Some feel the new license plate looks very similar to a box of Q-tips Cotton Swabs. What do you think?

Some feel that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", especially when the Ford government is cutting essential services in education and health care. You do not have to be from Ontario, or even Canada to answer this question -- in general, does it bother you when government makes changes to things that seem to be running just fine, when other essential services are cut to save money?
