It took several weeks, but a Texas teen, fighting cancer that was initially told that she could not wear her turquoise wig for graduation pictures, was granted permission, after her mom contacted the governor. Are you familiar with this story?

If you were principle of a school, a newly appointed one, wouldn't you look at current rules to see if they were applicable & not outdated? (i.e. wigs for students with cancer, color of casts worn for broken bones, other issues regarding kids that are in special populations)

I feel fortunate for the school that my dad, myself, and both my kids attended. In the fall of my son's senior year (I've shared this before) my son and his friend had an AP biology exam bet; whomever lost would have to wear leotards, tights, and a pink tutu one day a month for the entire spring semester. My son lost, and upheld his end of the deal. Besides people telling my son that he had good looking legs, no one had anything else to say, except the expected chuckles and bravery of my son. This can be attributed to the school's open & accepting policy regarding the identification with the LGBTQ population .. a lot of students thinking that he belong to the LGBTQ club on campus. On Tellwut, there are those that would applaud this and those that would not. If you're in the group that would not, wouldn't you rather a child be accepted, feel comfortable, and not get bullied by their peers? (include the initial ruling against a teen cancer patient whose turquoise wig diminished the embarrassment of losing their hair during cancer treatment).
