One of Canada's national treasurers, actor Christopher Plummer has died, at the age of 91, on Friday, February 5. "Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humour and the music of words," said Lou Pitt, his longtime friend and manager. "He was a national treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us." Were you a fan of his work?

His most famous role was without question that of Captain Von Trapp in the 1965 movie The Sound of Music. Ironically, Plummer hated the film and thought it overly sweet and cheesy. He called the Von Trapp role "so awful and sentimental and gooey," and found the only non-annoying element to be his co-star, Julie Andrews. He avoided calling the movie by its name, instead calling it "that movie," "S&M," or "The Sound of Mucous." Do you enjoy that movie?

He began his career in the theatre, playing King Lear, Hamlet, Henry V, Iago, Mercutio, Mark Antony and Macbeth, to name only a few. The beauty of Plummer's career is he's so prolific and so varied, you'll never know when he's going to appear in a role. Which of these movies or TV shows did you enjoy him in (again, this is just a small sampling of his many roles)?

Plummer was unable to have much contact with his daughter during her early and teenage years, because her mother was adamant about blocking access. He and Amanda, who was his only child, did establish contact after she became an adult, and they later maintained a friendly relationship.
