Though they have never had a pop, much less alt' rock, radio hit, The Residents have been a sonically, visually, and technologically influential and prolific band in the U.S. rock underground for over 40 years. The mysterious group's chief composer, Hardy Fox, succumbed in late October 2018 to a brief bout with brain cancer at age 73

Among other audacious accomplishments The Residents have recorded an album of 40 one-minute songs (with as many corresponding videos for them) called The Commercial Album, contributed a soundtrack to a Discovery Channel nature documentary, made a concept album revolving around the Inuit people and their language (Eskimo, with an adjacent dance remix of its title track, "Diskomo"), and recorded respectfully askew tributes to such famed singers and composers as Elvis Presley, James Brown, Hank Williams and John Phillip Sousa. Whether you've heard any of aforementioned Residents material or not, whch of them interests you at all?

In order to celebrate the band's 40th anniversary, several years ago The Residents sold ten 28-cubic foot refrigeratorrs filled with every vinyl record, compact disc, DVD and CD-ROM (and cassette?) they had issued to that point and one of the top hat-wearing eyeball masks that became their visual trademark. The price for such an indulgence?: $100,000! If you liked a musical act enough and money weren't an issue, would you purchase such a luxurious item? (apologies for a bit of blasphemous talk in the video)
