If you keep up with pop music and general entertaniment news, you may have heard that rappper Kanye West has been hosting events he calls Sunday Services. They were at first invitation-only affairs, but later ones have been open to the public. Linked with this question is footage of one such to-do West presented recently at an Atlanta megachurch. Anyone who has kept abreast of West's hip-hop career know that Sunday Services aren't his first use of Christian themes in his work. One of his earliest rap hits (he was previously only a producer) was "Jesus Walks"; at odds with its gospel sentiments, West uses a nasty racial epithet and a coarse synonym for excrement, all expurgated from the tune in the video accompanying this question. Do you find it at all peculiar how he's mixed sanctity and profanity in this recording and eleswhere?

I've no(t enough) stake in the subject matter to make that call.

West isn't the only secular rapper to have broached explicitly Christian themes. In 2018, Snoop Dogg oversaw a 2-CD anthology of soul gospel by other acts in which he made some cameos The Bible of Love (the piece here features great '70's-'90's gospe/r&b crossiover singer Rance Allen). This year, he issued a return to the gantgsta hip-hop that brought him fame, I Wanna Thank Me. Within the first few cuts alone, Dogg drops multiple f-, m.f.-, s-, n- and b-bombs. To what might one attribute his inconsistency?
Self-deception

An (at least superficial) apprecation of the cultural mores, if not what one may hope is or was the doctrine and theology of the African-American church in which he was raised as a youth

The gatekeepers of the gospel music industry being so undiscerning and desirous of worldly attention that they neither vetted Dogg as a true believer (even in the unbiblical teachings plaguing black, among other ethnicities', churchiantity?) before allowing him into their creative and marketing space nor cared that they may have been played for fools

Though more r&b than hip-hop, R. Kelly in 2004 took a break from his often over the top bedroom lyrics and general inspirational songs to make an aesthetically credible gospel album, U Saved Me. Alas, his later legal troubles involving pederasty and sex slavery put his songs of salvation in a different light. I hope West isn't found to be the same kind of criminally predator; but have you ever supported any arists-who needn't be musicians-whose work you enjoyed after unfortunate, well founded allegations surface about them?

Kanye West's next album is scheduled to be a-surprise!?-gospel effort entitled Jesus Is King. This will be coming from someone who only a few years ago out out an album called Yeezus, containing a self-aggrandizing ditty entitled "I Am A God" (language warning for the vid' with this question!). People change and, more importantly, can be changed by their Maker, but I'm yet unsure what to think about West's apparent turnaround. How about you?
I believe he has (been) changed for the better, and his Sunday Services aren't merely an extended promotional rollout for his new album.

I think West's still at least confused as he has ever been.
