The Statler Brothers, a vocal quintet who transposed the harmonies of Southern gospel to country music, first found wide notoriety opening and providing background vocals for Johnny Cash in the mid-1960's before embarking on their own long, successful career of their own. The group's bass singer, Harold Reid, died from kidney failure in late April 2020 at 80 years old. Are you familiar with the Statlers, and were you already aware of Reid's passing?
Was familiar with the Statlers and aware of Reid's demise.

Before transitioning to being strictly a country and gospel act, the Statler Brothers occupied a crossroads of pop, folk and country, especially evident on their 1965 hit "Flowers on the Wall." In the 1990's the song found renewed popularity by its placement in the movie Pulp Fiction. Was this song your introduction to the group's music?

Like many Southern gospel ensembles, and as is tradition in more traditional country circles, the Statler Brothers leavened their work with a healthy dose of humor. I don't recall specific jokes, but I do remember laughing quite a bit the times I saw them in concert in my town's high school gym. Additionally, they recorded and made occasional appearances as Lester "Road Hog" Moran & The Cadillac Cowboys (Reid portrayed Moran), a comically bad-to-middling country band. Can you think of any other musical acts who have funny alter egos?
Yes (and I may mention at least one in a comment)
