O: Oxo-Ish Ledesma had found success in the late '70's singing especially libidinous disco in the band Foxy. But hearing his offspring repeat his group's bawdy lyrics struck his conscience; that resulted in the formation of his next band, Oxo. With 1983's danceable-but-not-disco "Whirly Girl," they made it to the lower 20's, only to never hit again (and disband soon thereafter). If you're a parent, have your children caused you to reroute your professional life?

N: The New Vaudeville Band- Somehow, in 1966, a year rife with groundbreaking and just plain good music, this English lot and their 1920's pastiche, replete with Rudy Vallee-styled megaphone use, not only got to #1, but won a rock Grammy Award for "Winchester Cathedral." Good on 'em for resonating with many for a bit, but that they did at all may be one of those "you had to be there" mysteries. Do you know of anything else seemingly out of its time that improbably became popular, however briefly?

M: Sister Janet Mead-This Australian nun was in her mid-30's when her rather rocking rendition of "The Lord's Prayer" soared to the top five in 1974; it also became the best-selling single ever by an Australian act in Australia (& may yet be?). She didn't record much else (though I'd like to hear her 1975 rock mass, But I Am Smaller Than My Song, which has never seen U.S. release), but, as of this writing, she's still among the living. Did you ever know someone you'd not have thought to be a rock'n'roller turn out to be one?

L: Len-Go figure that a song from 1999 about feeling good at a rave isn't steeped in techno, but disco from a couple decades prior. "Steal My Sunshine" the only U.S. top ten hit for the Canadian quintet led by siblings Marc and Sharon Costanzo, relies on a sample from The Andrea True Connection's 1976 smash "More More More." Maybe the requirement of their homeland's radio stations to play a certain percentage of native acts kept their career afloat longer, but they've not recorded since 2012. Have you ever attended a rave?

K: Jerry Keller-Was a song so cheery as Keller's 1959 top 15 entry, "Here Comes Summer," met with the ire anti-rock & roll activists' gave other songs and artists? Beats me!, but if those same anti-rockers had any use for Pat Boone, they may have cottoned to Keller, as Boone's and Keller's friendship from attending the same church gave the latter his entry into the music biz. And though Keller's own hit streak was short, he stayed active in songwriting, acting and singing jingles & movie soundtrack contributions. Have you ever found work through your religious/spiritual affiliation?
