Results: One Of The Best Shows On TV Just Announced Its 6th And Final Season -- And You May Even Know About It

Canada is famous for many things -- our maple syrup (producing 85 percent of the world's maple syrup), hockey, our reputation as a peacekeeping nation and our friendly people -- but one thing may surprise you. We are also quite famous for comedy. And one of our proudest exports has just announced it will be ending after its sixth season. To be fair, the show did not catch on right away -- maybe the name of the show put some people off, or maybe it was because it was Canadian. For whatever reasons, when it did catch on, it really took off. I'm talking about Schitt's Creek, and if you have not seen this show (available on Netflix and of course, on CBC) do yourself a favour (with the "u") and check it out. Have you seen the show?

So, what makes this show so good? Schitt's Creek is a classic fish-out-of-water story: After they lose their entire video store fortune to the government because their business manager hasn't been paying their taxes, the Rose family head to the only asset the government has allowed them to keep: the town of Schitt's Creek. The cosmopolitan Roses, who had purchased the town as a joke, move in to the local motel, where they share two adjoining rooms; they stick out like sore thumbs in their new home. But at its heart, Schitt's Creek is a show about family. And not just the family we are born into, but the family we cultivate. The show borrows from a long line of Canadian shows that created families out of strangers -- but most notably is Corner Gas. Did you watch Corner Gas?

Schitt's Creek is also a family affair, with Eugene Levy who plays Johnny Rose and his son Daniel Levy, who plays son David, and Sarah Levy, Eugene's daughter, who plays Twyla Sands, the waitress at the diner. Eugene and Daniel are also co-creators of the show. And throw in the comedic genius of Catherine O'Hara (who starred with Eugene on SCTV for years) plus many other interesting, complex and relatable characters and you have the makings of a comedy show that is both funny and touching. The show's final season will air January 2020, and this has been the plan all along, according to Daniel Levy, who said he knew from the start how the show was going to end.
