Food & Drink
Some foods (and drinks) are named for pre-existing cartoon characters. Maybe you've consumed any of these?

The oldest such U.S. product fitting this survey's subject may be Donald Duck Orange Juice. My first experience with it was at my big city cousins' apartment when I was a kid, but it was first sold in 1940, as it still is today alongside other fruit juices. But the reason why it makes sense for Disney's sailor-suited, pants-free waterfowl to shill this drink eludes me. Does it make sense to you?

It's not quite food, but Flintstones chewable multivitamins are intended to provide children nutrition they may not get from the food they eat. However, The Flintstones cartoon series was conceived as a spoof of situation comedies depicting working class life, such as The Honeymooners, for adults. Do you find it ironic that much of the merchandising of the show's characters, such as the vitamins, is geared to children?

Companies licensing the Popeye character have, to my mind, more sensibly used him in the products they associated with the sailor. Popcorn named for him-and no longer sold?)-was a staple snack for younger me. There's still canned spinach named for him whose strength is increased by that vegetable. More fascinating may be the way Popeye has been used in international food ads, such as a Netherlander spot for milk and the spot for a Japanese food flavoring included here. Not counting the chicken restaurants named for him, would you rather eat food named for or advertised by Popeye?

Popeye also had a cold breakfast cereal line named for him in the 1940's, but numerous other characters have been so honored (exploited?) since then. Which cereals named for the following characters/franchises have you eaten?
