In 1928 Alexander Flemming accidentally made a revolutionary discovery in the medicane world. Which has turned into one of the greatest developments in medicane. The antibiotic Penicillin was introduced. Antibiotics are a medicane that slow down or destroy the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics can't treat viral infections such as the flu, cold or coughs. But still it saves lives!! Antibiotics do carry some side effects. Some individuals are allergic to antibiotics and cannot take them at all. The side effects of taking antibiotics include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, yeast infection and swollen tongue. The side effects are not felt by everyone. And the risks are more beneficial until life threatening side effects occur. . In recent years concerns of antibiotics being overly prescribed and overly taken have arose. When antibiotics are over used this in turn is causing more bacterial infections, due to the body developing a resistance to the medicane. With more infections means more sickness's and higher death rates. This is called bacterial resistance or antibiotic resistance. 47 million unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions have been written in the U.S. alone. One in three antibiotic prescriptions are unnecessary. Antibiotics are a life saving medicane. If they are properly prescribed they can fight off viruses and save lives.
