I apologize for the length of this survey and debated doing it but somehow I find it easier to talk to the people on here sometimes more than I can talk to family. I'm having all sorts of emotions and just wanted to talk about it, thank you for understanding.

I am a 58 year old female and have been diagnosed with DCIS or Ductal Carcinoma In Situ of the right breast. For those that do not know this is cancer that is within the milk ducts. Have you ever had or know someone who had this type of breast cancer?

The extent of my cancer growth is a stage 0 which means it is non-invasive and in its original location. The grade is between 2 intermediately and 3 most aggressive cell. From what I understand this is the measure of how fast the cells are growing and dividing. My surgery options are a Lumpectomy alone followed by 5 years of hormonal therapy, a Lumpectomy with postop radiation and the therapy or a simple Mastectomy with no Chemo. I decided on the first one. Have you ever had a Lumpectomy followed with hormonal therapy?

My prayer is there will be no cancer cells outside of the lump they remove. There was a worrisome spot on a routine mammogram which led to a 3D mammogram, an ultrasound and finally a biopsy. The last three were all done at the same appointment. If you are female, do you get a routine mammogram?

If you are female and you don't get a routine mammogram, I urge you to do so. It can literally save your breast and your life. I had no lump I could feel, no symptoms, but left untreated could have spread outside of the duct into surrounding tissue. Most insurance pays 100% for preventive measures and if you don't have insurance some states offer them free if you are low income. The last one I had was free and that was 6 years ago. Will you now at least considered getting a routine mammogram?
