Results: 21 Horses have died in the last two months at Santa Anita race track in California

Authorities are investigating the deaths of 21 horses at Santa Anita race track. Some of the deaths have been due to broken bones and at least once horse died of a heart attack. (Most of the time when horses get broken bones, they are euthanized because of the severe pain they would suffer.) The track has closed several times to try to assess the situation. They have been studying every aspect of the track and also did a sampling of the soil and also looked at the grounds through radar. Some say the deaths may be due to unusually wet winter weather. They are trying to see if the deaths are connected. Animal rights activists believe that some of the deaths occurred because sick or injured horses were forced to run.
