"The protective coating which acts like a screen protector for the Ledge experienced some minor cracking," a representative told USA TODAY in an emailed statement on behalf of the Willis Tower. "No one was ever in danger and the Ledge was immediately closed. We replaced the coating Monday night and the Ledge was open for business as usual yesterday." If you happened to be on the ledge when the protective coating cracked, would you want to go back out once it was repaired?

Jesus Pintado, who was visiting with his family, told the station that he was waiting in line for his turn to stand a hundred stories above the city when he heard a loud boom as the coating cracked. He said the people standing on the deck at the time turned "pale" as they all heard the glass crack. If you were standing on the ledge when the protective coating cracked, would it freak you out?

The Skydeck first opened in 1974, according to its site, and its viewing ledges were installed later. The ledges were constructed out of low-iron, clear glass, tempered for durability and the panels each weigh 1,500 pounds. The ledges hover 1,353 feet over the Chicago River and Wacker Drive. If you had been visiting the location when the protective coating cracked, would you expect a refund?
