Do others also call you a different name (whether they know your real name or not)? I for instance am Charlie (but I'm female) named by my husband for the book by Steinbeck, Travels with Charly on our honeymoon in 1964, so many of my friends call me Charlie, too. Those who never knew my deceased husband do not know who Charlie is. My current husband calls me C.C.

I am 80 years old and only last year learned why I have this name. My 90 year old cousin told me she named me. My parents had planned on calling me Jean and were looking for a middle name when the cousin said, "no, make it Phyllis Jean." And I've always hated the name. Do you know where your name came from?

I have a niece who disliked her name (was named for one of the March sisters in Little Women) and when she was of legal age told her mother, "you named me after the wrong sister" and promptly legally changed her name from Amy to Jo. Have you ever legally changed your name?

If you'd like to tell us about it, feel free:
  • My name was wrong on Birth certificate at 16 I found out it is Leah Lilyan not Linda Leah
  • I have always liked that my name is spelled differently and jokingly, and because I have to spell it for them correctly, I tell people my Mom was eating Italian food before she had me.
  • My first name is Janna. My middle name was Lu after my grandma whose middle name was Lucy. I never liked Lu. In 1995 at a family reunion I found out that my grandma's mother immigrated to American sterrage from Sweden all alone at 13. She must have been so scared and so brave at the same time. Her names was Elin. In 1995 I changed my last name because I hated it and I changed my middle name to Elin after my great grandmother who is now my hero. She never spoke of her homeland or her family again she was so heartbroken.
