Just a few decades ago it would have been all but inconceivable for a politician – or any official in a position of power – to publicly come out as gay or lesbian. Now, while there is still considerable prejudice in many parts of the world, since 2021 many cultures have thankfully moved on to embrace more progressive realities There are today more politicians, elected officials and even heads of state that have openly and publicly acknowledged their membership of the LGBTQ+ community than at any time in history.
