The second weekend of April marked one year since I fulfilled (or tried to) two bucket list items. Unfortunately, things didn't go as I planned. I've been a Nascar fan for years, and finally made vacation plans to attend a race in person. I chose the Spring race at Texas Motor Speedway since I also wanted to see Dallas/Fort Worth. I planned the whole trip several months ahead of time and chose non-refundable options for the hotel and flight since they cost less, and I trusted that nothing would go wrong. Well........

A week before I was to leave on my trip, I developed a persistent cough. This can't be happening - but it did! I took two sick days from work prior to my vaca, but knew in my heart that wouldn't be enough -- and it wasn't. I was sick on my entire trip (and a couple of weeks afterwards). I went anyway since I'd spent hundreds of dollars I couldn't get back. Should I have cancelled the trip?
Yes, since I didn't get to see/do what I wanted and risked getting sicker

Part of the reason I went ahead with the trip, besides wanting to experience what I could and not wanting to waste what I spent for the hotel and flight, is that the ticket to attend the race cost something like $130, for a seat where I could see well but was still quite a ways up in the stands. Would you (or have you) spent over $100 to attend a concert or sporting event you really wanted to experience?
Yes, a music event or concert (mention which one in the comments)

After last year's disappointment of being sick on my whole vacation, I have decided to, 1) go with refundable hotels and flights even though they cost a bit more, 2) plan any future vacations much closer to the dates I plan to be away, not months ahead of time, 3) do "staycations" this year. Do you feel a "staycation" can be just as much fun as traveling to a distant location?
Yes, since many nice day trips can be taken in my area
