A while back, I recall that there was a survey concerning engagement rings, and the importance of size was discussed within it. It got me thinking of a few points regarding engagement rings, and I thought I'd offer everyone a few points (;) in return for their opinions.

In some countries, particularly Nordic ones, it is common for both men and women to wear engagement rings (source: Wikipedia). Do you agree that it makes as much sense for a man to wear something symbolizing his betrothal, as it does for a woman to do this?

My mother believes that the best metal for an engagement ring - and wedding rings, for that matter, is yellow gold, with rose gold being second place. She says that from all the marriages she's observed, those that use any kind of white metal represent a cold marital relationship, while yellow or rose coincide with a warm, loving relationship. What are your thoughts on the matter, whether or not influenced by what you yourselves have witnessed?
I may or may not have thought about/noticed this; it makes sense to me

Do you prefer the concept of a man (or in this day and age, and/or depending on the orientation of the relationship, a woman) selecting a ring to propose to the other member with, or the two of them selecting the ring together?

Finally, in my parent's case, only my mother has an engagement ring, and she picked it out together with my father, because the ring seemed to call to her, even as they were passing by the store (which neither had entered prior to that event) that day. Mum has told me about a number of times in which she's been in dim lighting or out on a cloudy day, by herself, and suddenly the diamond in the ring starts sparkling like mad. Later, when she asks Dad about it, he consistently confirms that he was thinking happily of her at the time it happened. Based on this strong apparent spiritual connection this ring has with their marriage, do you agree that this is the best aspect on which to decide upon an engagement ring?
Definitely!
