Results: Chicago Police Sergeant has an Extremely Busy Day!

The Hot Chocolate 15k is a race hosted by Allstate that happens every year. Totalling 9.3 miles, it is a challenge even for some experienced runners. Instead of just running in the race, Sergeant Nowacki opted to run it in 50 pounds of SWAT gear to make it a little more challenging (he said his SWAT team is "very oriented toward physical fitness"). Have you ever run 9 miles (with or without carrying 50 pounds of gear)?

As he neared the finish line, Nowacki heard people screaming for medical aid after a woman had collapsed nearby. The woman had suffered a heart attack. The sergeant and a firefighter from Indiana rendered aid and waited with the woman until paramedics arrived and transported her to the hospital, where she is expected to recover. Have you ever helped someone (or been present) in a medical emergency where an ambulance had to respond?

"It was definitely a serendipitous moment because if I had run a little bit slower or a little bit faster, I would've never encountered the young lady," he said. Do you think it is more than coincidence that things sometimes work out for the best?

Nowacki had been planning to propose to his girlfriend, Chicago Police Officer Erin Gubala, who was on a post at the finish line - and he didn't let fatigue or the emergency he helped avert deter him. The 19-year police veteran ran right up to his girlfriend. "Lo and behold, before I knew it, he was running at me, crossing the finish line. I didn't even see him," Gubala said. "And then he got down on one knee. It was just a whirlwind." If you are married, did you (or your spouse) plan a very special marriage proposal?
