One of the ship captains from Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch died in his sleep while attending this year's rally. Fifty-year-old Tony Lara died of an apparent heart attack. In addition to Lara's death, 13 other deaths took place during the rally due to motorcycle crashes. Two motorcycle crash deaths in Wyoming were people leaving the rally. This was the 75th anniversary of the Sturgis Rally. Attendances are always high on anniversary years. This year is expected to have the highest number of attendees ever (well over 1,000,000 people). In addition to the people, the rally brings more than $800 million annually; it is shared among South Dakota, Sturgis, the Lakota Indians and other tribes.
