The International Code of Marketing Breast Milk Substitutes was enacted in 1981 to promote breastfeeding and restrict the marketing of milk substitutes, such as infant formula, to ensure that breastfeeding mothers are not discouraged when it comes to breastfeeding, and that substitutes are used safely if needed. There is a petition asking President Obama and the US Congress to enact this code as law.
