Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still people who need guide dogs. So, over the past few months, Guide Dogs of America has slowly begun switching to safer procedures. First, they moved their puppy training completely online. Now, they've also found an efficient and adorable way to send future guide dogs off with volunteers. In a puppy drive-thru, referred to as a "puppy-go-home", volunteer puppy-raisers come to pick up a puppy and take them home. These puppy raisers receive the puppies when they're only about 8 weeks old. So, each family has plenty of time to get to know their pup. Through online classes, the puppies will learn all the skills they need to become successful guide dogs. That starts with basic obedience and important traits like calmness and confidence. When the puppies are about 16 months old, they will return to the Guide Dogs of America campus to work more closely with the staff. Then, they will be partnered with a blind or visually impaired person. As hard as it is for volunteers to let the puppies go, they're happy to know they've helped. The "Brew Dogs" Buddy and Barley have always been a fixture at Karen and Mark Heuwetter's microbrewery, Six Harbors Brewing Company in Huntington, New York. But now, since the coronavirus pandemic has closed bars, they've switched to a new role in the family business. While they don't exactly deliver the beer, they are the first point of contact during the deliveries the brewery is doing for customers -- after all, these active pups would probably shake up the beer too much. However, the customers seem to enjoy it, just as much as the dogs do. The actual delivery is done by the microbrewery staff, and the "beer" the dogs are carrying are props. Have you ever trained your dog to "fetch" something you needed?

Montreal, Quebec comedian Chantal Desjardins was going stir crazy in isolation with her fiancé and pets and decided to use an app on her phone and have some fun with Cooper, her 7-week-old mini-bernedoodle. She posted a video of Cooper singing a version of Gloria Gaynor's iconic and very topical anthem "I Will Survive" in a high-pitched voice but with the lyrics updated to reflect the current situation. "The Pets Will Thrive" went viral and has been shared almost 40,000 times with 6,000 comments on Facebook alone. Have you found watching pet videos has helped your state of mind in recent weeks?

Johanna Gabel, a Vaughan, Ontario-based psychotherapist, has brought her dog to work with her for years. She says animals soothe people's nerves, and their companionship helps people feel less isolated, which is handy right now. The U.S. National Institutes of Health says animal interactions decrease our levels of cortisol, a stress-related hormone, and lower our blood pressure. Animals also offer focus and routine. "They allow us to manage when everything feels out of control," Ms. Gabel says. Have you found having a pet has helped you cope better with what we are going through right now?
