Tips for growing healthy plants
  • Don't let them die?

  • Our prayer plant is in the master bedroom and by the window that gets a lot of sun. We feed it the miracle grow plant food spikes and water only when dry. Our prayer is very happy. Our corn plant is in our living room. We replanted it and gave it brand new soil bigger pot.

  • Each plant is different. Be aware of the requirements of each plant that you grow, and try to meet them. For example, if the plant is succulent in nature and grows slowly, let the soil partially dry out between watering and go easy on "nutrients." If it grows fast and has broad leaves, the reverse is true.
  • Less is more when it comes to watering them...most plants like to have their soil dry out a little before having more water added to them.

  • Don't throw out that last drip of coffee or tea, Plants love it! Peppers, esp hot wax, love growing inside and will even fruit in winter- just put them in a sunny window! Basil is another good choice, esp blue spice (I'm trying it for the 1st time from seed and look forward to the tea as I have never tasted it but there is supposedly a nice vanilla overtone), lime basil or sweet basil are supposed to be best for indoor growing. I can already tell you the lime and sweet are good varieties, but Thai and anise basils are also good. I usually grow mine from seed inside and never take the plants outdoors- direct sowing basil outside has never worked for me. I also sometimes bring bought basil plants inside in fall.

  • If you pat the top of African violets, there will always be blooms. I am not at all a plant person, but my first husband told me to do this. Evidently because we give off CO2 which is what the plant takes in, it helps with the blooms(????). I never saw his African violets without blooms. . . .
