Results: Bishop Outraged

"I am outraged. I couldn't believe my eyes!" said Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, who oversees St. John's Episcopal Church in Washington DC, which stands across the street from the White House. She was responding to watching Trump use her church without permission or any prior notification for a photo opportunity. This came immediately after he gave a speech that the Bishop says was "antithetical not only to the teachings of Jesus, but everything our church stands for." During a protest and moments after delivering this speech at the White House, the police were ordered to clear the street using pepper balls, flash bangs and rubber bullets so that Trump could walk over and pose with a Bible in hand in front of the church. He is not a member of St. John's and does not worship there. Several church clergy and parishioners were outside the building handing out bottles of water, granola bars and running a first aid station for protesters when they got hit with pepper spray and were forced to leave. The Bishop said she was shocked and horrified to see this abuse of people and of sacred symbols, the image of her church used as a backdrop for his incendiary language and actions. "I don't want President Trump speaking for St. John's. We so dissociate ourselves from the messages of this president." said the Bishop.
