Every year Quebec City, in Quebec, holds their annual Winter Carnival, in late January to mid February. This year, the 67th Quebec Winter Carnival will certainly be different, but no less fun. To comply with Covid-19 restrictions, the Carnival has been scaled back in size and length (held February 5-14), and will deploy outside only scenic elements and contemplative monuments of ice and snow. Scattered throughout the city, about a hundred sculptures and magnificent 20-foot-high towers will get visitors and locals outside and entertained. The virtual program will be added to the Carnival YouTube Channel. The entire Carnival 2021 program is offered free of charge. Have you ever attended the Quebec Winter Carnival and will you attend it "virtually" this year?

The highlight of the Carnival has always been the magnificent ice sculptures, and this year will be no different. Over 100 sculptures can be viewed. The traditional opening ceremonies has been cancelled, the Carnival's mascot, Bonhomme will not be making an appearance this year, and the Ice Palace has been split up into seven different ice "towers," spread out across Québec City. All interactive games and activities (you can still skate) have also been cancelled. Have you ever tried your hand at making an ice sculpture?

The Quebec Winter Carnival is the world's biggest winter carnivals, but of course, it is not the only one. This year, these carnivals have all been either cancelled or modified. Have you ever attended any of these other winter carnivals?

Maybe the traditional winter carnival isn't your cup of steaming hot tea (perfect for a winter carnival), but these might be. Although they are all either cancelled or modified, this year due to the pandemic, have you ever, in the past, attended any of these winter carnivals?

Frozen Dead Guy Days, Colorado -- The story behind this unique festival in Colorado is as bizarre as its name. This quirky event, located in the town of Nederland, honors "Grandpa" Bredo Morstoel, a Norwegian immigrant whose corpse lies entombed in dry ice in a shed in the nearby hills (seriously). Morstoel died of a heart condition in 1989, and his family decided to freeze his body in the hopes that cryogenic technology would one day allow him to be thawed and brought back to life.

Fur Rendezvous, Alaska -- Affectionately known as Fur Rondy, this frozen fete in Anchorage is a 10-day celebration of Alaska's trading and trapping heritage. Going strong for nearly 80 years, its cornerstone event is the World Championship Sled Dog Race, which draws teams of sled dogs and mushers from all over the state (and the world). But the theme of friendly competition in the freezing temps also spans events such as the Frostbite Footrace, Snowshoe Softball, the Running of the Reindeer and Outhouse Races.

International Eelpout Festival, Minnesota -- Named for an ugly, eel-shaped, bottom-dwelling fish, the International Eelpout Festival marks one of Minnesota's quirkiest seasonal celebrations. Every winter, more than 10,000 hardy souls descend on the Minnesota town of Walker, whose population is just 1,069, to celebrate the eelpout of Leech Lake, the state's third-largest lake. Events include an eelpout fish fry (naturally), a fishing competition, curling, beer pong, rugby, dog sled rides, a costumed polar plunge, and more.
