The Growing Cost of Online Gambling

CBC News reports that nearly 130,000 Ontarians now show signs of gambling problems, compared with roughly 43,000 in 2018. Gambling-related suicides have also risen roughly three times following Ontario’s expansion of private online gambling in 2022. Researchers warn that around-the-clock access, frequent advertising and promotional offers can make it harder for people struggling with gambling to stop, raising questions about whether stronger advertising restrictions are needed.
