Whoopi Goldberg on Monday defended remarks made previously by ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, sending her co-hosts into a frenzy. Goldberg said on “The View” that no woman should be “surprised” if she hits a man and he hits back. “If you hit somebody, you cannot be sure you are not going to get hit back!” Goldberg said, adding that women should be taught not to provoke men and expect that they will just take it. Smith made comments over the weekend about NFL running back Ray Rice’s 2-game suspension amid charges of domestic violence. Smith apologized Monday for saying that women shouldn’t do “anything to provoke wrong actions,” but still clarified that a man should never hit a woman, according to The Blaze. Goldberg said that Smith’s comments were made based on Rice’s wife’s admission that she hit him first.
