Before the rise of the worldwide web and the appearance of lyrics websites thereupon, a few magazines in the U.S. and U.K. catered to music lovers' desire to read popular songs' lyrics without necessarily having to buy the physical media on which they appear. To my knowledge, the longest-lived of those American periodicals was Song Hits, which began publishing in 1937 and shuttered sometime in the '80's. Have you ever read Song Hits Magazine?

Though it was kind of cheaply put together, one cool thing, to my reckoning, about Song Hits when I read it in my youth was that each issue's song lyrics were divided into pop/rock, soul, and country sections (if there were any similar magazines for Spanish language music genres' hits' lyrics from the same vintage as Song Hits' existence, I'd appreciate it were someone to message me or mention it/them in the comments section). Were Song Hits still around today, to which section(s) would you be most attracted? Pop/rock

In the mid-1980's U.S., Star Hits Magazine arrived, dedicated to the lyrics of songs mostly favored by MTV and heard on pop radio. It was all in color and on glossier paper (whereas all but Song Hits covers were on non-gloss paper in monochrome), with arguably more thoughtful journalism, even including record reviews. During its '80's run, were you ever a Star Hits reader? Yes

Star Hits itself was an offshoot of a U,.K. magazine, Smash hits, which began publishing in 1978, starting as a monthly, later becoming a biweekly. Finding an PDF stash of Smash Hits '70''s-'80's PDF's (in print, the mag' was published from '87-'05) reminded me of what a wide-ranging, colorful pop scene Great Britain has back then (and still rivals that of the U.S. in some respects). Even if you bought them as imports, were you ever a Smash Hits reader?
