Karen Read Found Not Guilty
The Karen Read trial has drawn widespread public attention due to its complex circumstances and high-profile coverage. Read was accused of second-degree murder in the 2022 death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, who was found unresponsive in the snow outside a fellow officer’s home. Prosecutors alleged she struck him with her SUV after a night of drinking. However, the defense argued that a cover-up was involved and that O’Keefe was attacked inside the house. After weeks of testimony and intense media scrutiny, the jury found Read not guilty of second-degree murder and the other major charges. The case has ignited debate over police accountability, prosecutorial conduct, and how justice is pursued in high-stakes cases.
