5 Ontarians from different addresses charged after riding in same car during stay-at-home order

Five people from different addresses in the Brantford area have been charged after riding in the same vehicle, which got stopped at a Timmins RIDE check during Ontario’s stay-at-home order on Saturday. Under the current stay-at-home order, gatherings with anyone outside of one’s household are prohibited in order to help curb the spread of COVID-19, although there is an exception for people who live alone — they may have contact with one other household.

Sex workers get priority vaccine access in Vancouver

Like many other provinces, British Columbia has been allocating vaccine doses primarily through age ranges with some occupations getting earlier access. Now, sex workers are now getting priority treatment as well. The PACE Society, an organization in the city’s Downtown Eastside which “provides support, advocacy, and education by, with, and for current and former sex workers of all genders,” hosted a vaccination clinic for sex workers which happened yesterday.

Spain to give pets the same rights as humans

Spain has given pets the same legal status as humans in a sign of growing support for animal rights. Domestic animals will be considered “living beings” under Spanish law instead of mere objects as has been the case until now.

After suspending male student for wearing nail polish, Texas school changes policy

A Texas school district has adopted a new gender-neutral dress code after making national headlines in December for suspending an openly gay male student who wore nail polish to school. The Clyde Consolidated Independent School District’s policy for the 2021-2022 school year doesn’t distinguish between “girls” and “boys,” according to NBC affiliate KRBC-TV in nearby Abilene. Instead, the dress code provides guidelines for all students, and it no longer prohibits boys from wearing nail polish or makeup.
