Most Canadians don’t think the quality of health care in their province is likely to improve, a new survey suggests, despite new federal health accords with several provinces designed to quell the health-care crisis unfolding across Canada.

New polling shows majority of Atlantic Canadians want federal government action on flood insurance

A new survey of 1,500 Atlantic Canadians, conducted by Pollara Strategic Insights, found that 71% of respondents support the federal government's introduction of a national flood insurance program. Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) commissioned the survey to gauge interest in a high-risk flood protection insurance solution through a partnership between governments and the property and casualty insurance industry. 59% of Atlantic Canadians believe the federal government must do more to protect Canadians from flooding while 76% of Atlantic Canadians believe flood protection should be a priority for the federal government.

In Steeped: The Chemistry of Tea, Michelle Francl, Ph.D., a professor of chemistry at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, points to 8th-century Chinese manuscripts as the seed that inspired her to research. The text, Francl said, suggested stirring a bit of salt into each mug. According to Francl's analysis, the sodium in salt blocks a receptor on our tongues that tames the bitter sensation in tea, making it more pleasant to drink.
