Masks in public indoor spaces will no longer be necessary in Edmonton as of the province's full reopening on Canada Day, Edmonton councillors decided. The councillors voted 7-6 in favour of dropping the rule as of Stage 3 of the Alberta government's "Open for Summer" plan.

Canada’s ruling Liberal government announced on Wednesday that it plans to make online hate speech a crime punishable by as much as $20,000 for the first offense and $50,000 for the second. The proposal would punish social media users who broke the law but exempt social media companies that host such content from fines. Canada’s Attorney General David Lametti said the law is only designed to punish the most extreme forms of hatred that “expresses detestation or vilification of a person or group on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination.”

Pinterest is banning all ads with weight loss language and imagery, including ads that idealize or denigrate certain body types, it said on Thursday.The digital pinboard site said it would also not allow ads with testimonials about weight loss or weight loss products, or ads referencing Body Mass Index (BMI) or similar indexes

Royal Caribbean will require unvaccinated guests on cruises out of Florida to obtain insurance that would cover them if they tested positive for the coronavirus while on board. Starting August 1, unvaccinated guests 12 and older will have to show proof of an insurance policy with coverage of at least $25,000 per person for medical expenses and $50,000 per person for expenses for things like COVID-19-related quarantine and medical evacuation, according to the company.
