CP Rail to buy Kansas City Southern to create first rail network connecting Canada, the United States and Mexico
Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. agreed to buy Kansas City Southern for US$25 billion, seeking to create a 20,000-mile rail network linking the U.S., Mexico and Canada. “This transaction will be transformative for North America,” CP President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Creel said.

New Democrats are seeking the support of the House of Commons in calling on the Liberal government to eliminate for-profit long-term care. The NDP tabled a motion Monday that calls on the government to take the complex step of transitioning existing for-profit homes to not-for-profit operations by 2030. It also urges the government to work with provinces and territories to stop licensing new for-profit homes.

New Zealand approves paid leave after miscarriage
New Zealand will become one of the world's only countries to offer paid bereavement leave for workers who suffer a miscarriage, after lawmakers unanimously approved the motion on Wednesday. Employees in the country will be entitled to three days' leave after a miscarriage under the law, which is set to gain royal assent after passing its final stage in parliament.
