US health officials are warning people not to eat raw cake batter as they investigate a multistate outbreak of E. coli linked to cake mix. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that as of July 27, 16 people in 12 states have been reported to have been infected with the same strain of the E. coli bacteria. Seven people had to be hospitalized, the CDC said, including one who developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure. No deaths have been reported.-CNN

Japanese Mayor Draws Rebuke For Chomping Olympian’s Gold Medal
On Wednesday, the mayor of Nagoya, Japan’s fourth-largest city, sparked outrage when he removed his face mask and proceeded to bite the Olympic gold medal of Japanese softball pitcher Miu Goto. The incident gained enough publicity that Toyota, a major sponsor of the Tokyo Games, issued a critical statement Thursday. “It is unfortunate that he was unable to feel admiration and respect for the athlete,” Toyota said. “And it is extremely regrettable that he was unable to give consideration to infection prevention.”
