County lawmakers voted Tuesday to return to pre-pandemic guidelines on June 1. They agreed to follow U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and dropped plans to tie business occupancy to COVID-19 vaccination rates. That means COVID-related restrictions on things like large gatherings, capacity limits, dancing and more will be lifted.

In a reversal, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said Wednesday it will release within 30 days of an incident the names of deputies who shoot a suspect. In the past, the department concealed deputies' names sometimes for months while the District Attorney's office completed its investigation."We're not going to interfere with investigations, but our standard is going to be 30 days and those [names] are going to be posted online," Sheriff Alex Villanueva said. Police departments and communities have been debating transparency and accountability in officer-involved shootings after a year of national protests over incidents of police killings of Black Americans.

Tennessee’s Gov. Bill Lee has approved legislation that bans gender-confirming treatment for young minors despite objections that the series of bills unfairly discriminate against an already vulnerable population. Under the new law, doctors would be banned from providing gender-confirming hormone treatment to prepubescent minors.
