While the word fondue is French in origin (to melt), the traditional version is Swiss. It's melted cheese and wine cooked in a small pot over a heating element. Long forks used to dip bread or sometimes veggies in. There are other ways such a pot used also referred to as fondue

Sweet dips - Growing up, my mother had a fondue pot. Besides the cheese, another variant family had with guests over is melted chocolate or caramel. Chunks of fruit or sponge cake dipped into. Ever been to event meal a "chocolate fountain" featured to dip strawberries or other fruit in?
