This is a situation that happened to me today. My friend found out her teenage (18 yr old) daughter got married a few weeks ago. I knew about it, but did not discuss with her. Now, I feel like maybe I should have. The family found out about the wedding on FB. What to do when coming to confidences and who is your allegiance to?

Since I don't have children of my own, I have gotten to know my friends kids over the years. Sometimes they confide in me, with the understanding that if, for some reason what they tell me, I need to share with their parents, I will. I usually keep their confidence. In recent years this has become increasingly more difficult as the teenage years have approached. One of my friends, her daughter got married by JP. She told me only days after the service. She was having lunch with her mom that day, so i thought she would tell her (since she told me so readily). This was not the case and the family just found out today. My friend is outraged that i did not tell her & I feel awful. I really thought she knew. Should I have called her right away to see if she knew?
