Although Canadians are very proud of the country’s accomplishments in the Olympics, most don’t want to see Canada host the Games again, new data from the Angus Reid Institute shows.

The Ford government is introducing strict new rules for supervised drug consumption sites, including banning them within 200 metres of schools and child-care centres — a move that will force several existing sites to shut down permanently. “Communities, parents and families across Ontario have made it clear that the presence of consumption sites near schools and daycares is leading to serious safety problems,” Minister of Health Sylvia Jones said. The new policy, which falls in line with Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s vocal criticism of safe consumption sites, drew mixed reactions from opposition parties. The Ontario NDP called it “callous” while the Ontario Liberals accepted the decision to ban sites near schools but said the government was involved in a last-minute “scramble” to fix a policy it should have worked out long ago.

The trend has been popular in parts of Europe for about a decade but really started taking off in the United States over the past few years after people revealed their dramatic color transformations on social media apps like TikTok and Instagram. Procedures called iris implants have received US Food and Drug Administration approval for people who are missing part or all of their iris, but no procedure is approved for cosmetic purposes. In January, the American Academy of Ophthalmology issued a warning about the risks of vision loss and complications with two eye color change procedures.
