Virginia city fires police officer over Rittenhouse donation
The Virginia city of Norfolk has fired a police lieutenant after news reports that said he donated to and expressed support for Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager accused of killing two people during a police brutality protest in Wisconsin last summer. According to the newspaper, the donation carried the comment: “God bless. Thank you for your courage. Keep your head up. You’ve done nothing wrong.” It went on to say, “’Every rank and file police officer supports you.”

Spain has given pets the same legal status as humans in a sign of growing support for animal rights. Domestic animals will be considered “living beings” under Spanish law instead of mere objects as has been the case until now.
After suspending male student for wearing nail polish, Texas school changes policy
A Texas school district has adopted a new gender-neutral dress code after making national headlines in December for suspending an openly gay male student who wore nail polish to school. The Clyde Consolidated Independent School District’s policy for the 2021-2022 school year doesn’t distinguish between “girls” and “boys,” according to NBC affiliate KRBC-TV in nearby Abilene. Instead, the dress code provides guidelines for all students, and it no longer prohibits boys from wearing nail polish or makeup.
