Confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States have fallen to levels not seen since March 2020, according to an NBC News analysis — and experts say they expect case counts to stay low through the summer.
Requiring proof of age to look at online adult content raises privacy issues,
Legislation that would require Canadians to verify their age before they could look at online adult content could result in a number of privacy concerns, the federal privacy commissioner said Thursday. Bill S-203, introduced by Sen. Julie Miville-Dechêne last fall, doesn’t specify what that verification would look like. Options under consideration include presenting some type of ID to a third-party company or organization, or the use of technologies such as biometrics or artificial intelligence to estimate age.
Death penalty draws more Americans’ support online than in telephone surveys
Six-in-ten U.S. adults favor the death penalty for people convicted of murder, according to an April Pew Research Center survey that was conducted online using the Center’s American Trends Panel. As the Center has previously noted, people sometimes – though not always – respond differently to similar questions on the same topics in online and telephone polls.
Florida Man Charged With Killing Iguana Tries ‘Stand Your Ground’ Defense
A judge has rejected the “stand your ground” defense of a Florida man who said he beat an iguana to death only after it attacked him, biting him on the arm. The “stand your ground” law allows a person who is under attack and reasonably fears death or great bodily harm to use deadly force, even if they could retreat to safety. It has been used in several high-profile cases since it was adopted 16 years ago, but this might be the first time the recipient of deadly force was an animal. Animal control officials said the man tormented the animal, which is why it bit him on the arm, causing a wound that required 22 staples to close.
