Tellwut Online Survey Community Runs “Worst Date” Contest in Canada and the US
Tellwut challenged its North American online community of Tellwutter’s to tell about that worst date disaster. With over 2,000 people participating, the stories conjured up emotions of humor, sadness and disgust.
The worst date stories submitted by the Tellwut Community of online survey takers provide content for the things that movies are made of. Tellwutter’s stories ranged from the last minute prom date dump, to the date hooking up with someone else, to drinking too much and being sick on themselves, the date or the date’s car, not to mention toilet mishaps. Two winners were awarded the top prize for their misfortune. Canada’s worst date told about a nice dinner that ended with the date going to the washroom and never coming back. Not only did this woman have the misfortune of being stuck with the bill which included an order of pastries to go for the dine and dash guy, but to add insult to injury the woman ended up with a parking ticket. Tellwut’s American winner’s story featured a boyfriend who thought it would be an amusing joke to spray his date with gasoline while he was filing up his motorcycle at a gas station. Perfume de gas is dangerous; not funny.
Other worst date stories of note were from the couple who brought their five children on a Valentine’s Day dinner as the husband had a last minute layover from the navy and the couple could not get a babysitter in time. This family soon had over 30 children hanging around wanting to be entertained as other parents were dropping their kids off at this family's table, assuming this couple was the free babysitting service being offered by the restaurant. Then there was the date invite to the race track; yet the seating was not in the stands but by a hole in the fence! Last but not least was the Easter Sunday date to meet the parents. Family participation included the butchering and plucking of chickens.
Whether dating for the first time, meeting the parents or just dating a loser, these worst date stories make comedies, romance and horror movies seem realistic. From Fatal Attraction with Glenn Close and Michael Douglas to Meet the Parents with Ben Stiller and Robert De Nero it is important to take heed to the words in Kenny Rogers’s song “The Gambler”. It’s not just about poker when he sings, “you gotta know when to hold’em, know when to fold’em, know when to walk away, know when to run…”.
