Before this survey, how many of these did you know: 1. According to the World Trade Organization, about 97% of US agricultural exports to Canada are tariff-free. The US Department of Agriculture says "almost all" US agricultural exports face no tariffs at all. 2. The few tariffs there are are rarely applied. For example, on milk, the tariff only applies once the US quote is reached, and then only applied on the surplus. in the last year, the US only filled 22% of its quota. 3. The trade deficit, including both goods and services was $38 billion, not $60 billion. 4. The trade deficit is driven by US imports of Canadian energy. Last year the US imported $111 billion of discounted Canadian energy including crude oil. It exported $26 billion of energy to Canada. If there was no energy traded between the countries, the USA would have a trade surplus with Canada (but US refiners wouldn't get cheap Canadian crude).
