Princess Vera Gedroits was an incredible woman who was born on April 19, 1870. She was the first woman military surgeon in Russia, the first woman professor of surgery, and the first physician to serve in the Russian imperial court. Although, she was a lesbian she entered a heterosexual marriage of convenience. She also taught nursing to the Tsarina Alexandra and her daughters who briefly worked on the war front.
