Results: Police Officers Prepare a Meal and Care for Kids After Mother is Taken to Hospital

Two police officers in Eindhoven, Netherlands, tested their culinary capabilities after answering a call to the home of a young mother with hypoglycemia. The woman was rushed to the hospital with low blood sugar, leaving the officers to figure out what to do with the woman's 5 young children. Have you ever had to care for another person's children after a medical (or other type of) emergency?

The woman's five young children were left unattended while the authorities attempted to locate a caretaker, so the officers stepped up. After making fried egg sandwiches (with some healthy fruit on the side, of course) for the children, both men also took over cleaning duties – washing and drying the dishes. Do find it unusual that police officers would go above and beyond their regular duties to care for this woman's kids after her medical emergency?

In my experience (as a former police officer myself), it seems that people often tend to forget that police are people, too. We have families of our own and sometimes little kids that we're trying to support. Do you find that people often seem to forget that police have normal lives beyond the badge?

In the selfie posted alongside the story (above), the two officers were in a kitchen in full uniform. One of the officers wore blue rubber gloves as he washed a pan in the sink. The picture was posted on Facebook and quickly went viral, receiving over 100,000 likes and 5,000 shares. In a later post, the Eindhoven Police thanked Facebook users for the positive response to the viral image, which has received over 95,000 likes. Translated to English, the post said the officers were "grateful" that a "small gesture" could be heartwarming to many, and that they had never expected the story to reach such a large audience.
