Results: I need ideas
Published on 08/25/2025
We have had an unexpected financial windfall.
We don't need all this money.
We gave a huge donation to our church and some local charities.
My granddaughter & I have been hiding $100 bills around our town & then posting clues on Facebook for people to find them.
We also have been going to the local farmer's market & randomly handing out $100 bills, and giving really big tips when we go out to eat. I'm looking for other fun ways to give away money.

How about instead allocating this windfall of monies to a preferred charity whom may care to use it better? How about you "donate' the monies to a non profit that pays off utility bills which others can not pay. Your actions may not potentially be assisting the best candidates for this windfall of your donations. How about donating to St Judes which the bulks of monies are directed to the cause and not overhead expenses.

At Christmas, I would buy Walmart gift cards. I would put them under windshield wipers of cars, or leave them in conspicuous places. I have also paid for purchases for people who look like they might be down on their luck. At the beginning or every school year, I buy school supplies, underwear and socks for the schools to give out to needy children. Hats and gloves are also very welcome. Give to the educational charity Donors Choose. This goes to classrooms supplies the school doesn't provide.

When I worked in the school system we had a random act of kindness week. We took the kids to rest homes to had out flowers to the patients who were so surprised. We also took them to the mall to hand out packs of flower seeds to random people, just because. This has been about 20 years and when I leave the house I try to do 3 acts of kindness a day . I wish more people would share their wealth with the less fortunate like you and your granddaughter!!

I was formerly homeless. The only time that I ever shoplifted, it was because I was a woman of childbearing age who never would have stolen that item if I had been too young or old or too male to have a menstrual cycle. I took a box of tampons that I knew contained too few because it was small enough to conceal. So I now leave supplies near areas homeless women congregate. While I am glad to see that tampons or Kotex are sometimes starting to be free in some women's restrooms, this isn't much help to homeless women considering that these restrooms are typically for customers only.

Or think of something that makes you smile - like driving past a house that has incredible gardens and giving the owners a gift card for a local nursery? Donate to foodbanks because they are severely underfunded and yet still in huge demand right now. Donate to community programs or centres, start a scholarship fund for something very specific, like a favourite skill or hobby. Fun shouldn't enter equation. Donate to charities benefitting homeless or animals...whatever is meaningful to you. Doctors Without Borders. Habitat for Humanity. Your local animal shelter.

There's a difference between "fun" ways, and "ethical", "responsible", "meaningful" ways to give out money! If you want to have fun, just use the money to buy tickets to movies, live sports game, live concerts or other performance shows, or buy a vacation to an ancient French chateau. But if you want to just "give it away", then give it to the Missouri Coalition for the Environment, America SCORES, UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, or any one of about 5,000 other charities that are actually doing much needed work. You definitely should NOT be just tossing it out randomly for the fun of it!

Put it towards my debt. On disability i don’t have any money left over for paying down bills, so any extra money, usually has to go towards that. We haven’t travelled since before i got really sick, so if i manage to pay down my debt, then that’s what i would then save up for. I would love to see the rest of Europe, or New Zealand. Even Thailand someday.

I believe $100 could change someone that is homeless life no it's not going to get them a house or car or not worry about being off the street but someone with no money appreciates anything.
